MESCO Airlines to expand with niche services like air ambulance, fire services:

MESCO Airlines Ltd, a Mumbai-based helicopter charter services plans to expand its operations by enhancing their fleet with large size helicopters. The company's expansion plans being at a very preliminary stage, it is conducting a feasibility study to ascertain fleet additions and future plans. It currently has a fleet size of seven helicopters which caters to short haul travel and one aircraft (five-seater). With the future fleet additions, MESCO Airlines plans to offer highly specialised niche services like air ambulance, air fire services, aerial cranes and also chopper services for business clients from the airport to the commercial centre Nariman Point in Mumbai.

MESCO Airline company is in talks with various police departments for air ambulance services and fire services. “Placing a chopper on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway where accidents occur frequently, the air ambulance can be a faster service unlike taking the road to reach the hospital. Availability of infrastructure facilities is also very important,” said Shipra Singh, Managing Director, MESCO Airlines.

For chopper services from the airport to Nariman Point in Mumbai the company will start the services based on the infrastructure availability and also air traffic. As of now, the company is open to look at chopper operations at the existing and the upcoming airport in Navi Mumbai. “For these services, we need adequate infrastructure to start the chopper services from the airport to the commercial centre in Mumbai,” stated Singh. The company which caters to state governments of Himachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Orissa is now looking at North Eastern states as their potential clients and will quote tenders once the government calls for them. MESCO Airlines works on a business model wherein the focus lays on the bulk booking for instance booking a helicopter for a period of three years. “Doing retail business is not on our immediate expansions plans,” stated Singh.
